Improv Lab: Bluegrass

  • Bellingham Folk School 1208 Cornwall Avenue Bellingham, WA, 98225 United States (map)

Thursday, February 16th 7-8pm $10  | Marcel Ardans

Marcel frequently leads workshops dedicated to the art of improvisation. This month's Improv Lab will focus on taking several samples of bluegrass vocab (licks, excerpts from fiddle tunes, vocal melodies) and breaking them down so we can internalize the separate elements that make them sound like bluegrass. We'll get behind some examples of chromatic movement, the dirty third, the dominant seventh, chord tones and, of course, the almighty pentatonic scale. As always this class is aimed at those that already feel capable on their instruments but have spent little time improvising.
